This weeks #onthebar is a special one. It’s come from @jbeimports who import premium spirits to find the best on offer… I have to say it’s an exceptionally tough life when you have to try them 😛 but this @barekstengin found its way to me and I’ve enjoyed trying it. I’ve served it with raspberries, blueberries and elderflower lemonade (Fentimans) and it’s very delicious. The bad news is I had a few difficulties getting in to the bottle (the cork has dis-attached itself from the cap) good news is that I used my teeth to pry it out leading to an unfortunate incident of spilling the gin straight into my mouth. It’s got a very traditional botanical gin smell but is slightly sweeter to taste when neat. Mixed with the combination above this is a very refreshing drink.
Produced by Head Distiller Stig Bareksten This gin is a Norwegian gin made with herbs, potatoes and berries. It’s very difficult to find the full list of botanicals used online and the distillation process but through Instagram stalking I think it includes Lingonberries, Mint, Oregano, White Clover, Blueberries, Elderflower and Juniper (of course).
How does it rate? It’s a 9.5 but when you search for this product online it comes up as out of stock almost everywhere. If you want to get your hands on a bottle then you can get in touch with JBE here – if you’ve got a gin bar or a serious gin collection this is a great one to have on board and particularly great in cocktails. Find out how you can win a bottle on my feed this week.
