This post is part of a promotion with Bannatyne’s I received the stay complimentary and consequentially it is marked #ad
When I was 16 I got a job in a restaurant and hotel working part time, I started on wedding service and stayed there for 6 years right through college and university. The best bit about it was I met some of my best friends and whilst we don’t see each other that often, we do try to catch up with mini breaks away when we can.
This week I was invited to spend some time at Bannatynes Hotel in Darlington on their Summer Sizzler Spa Break (you can check out all of their offers here) with my bestie. The deal is:
- £139 per person
- Overnight Stay
- 2 Course Meal
- Glass of Champagne or Chilled Cider
- A 25 minute treatment (Swedish Back, Neck & Shoulder Massage or Energising Facial)
- Use of the Spa and leisure facilities
Here’s how our stay went:
We checked in for 3 o’clock (I got a little lost finding the hotel, it’s actually really simple but I’m not great at directions. Luckily a quick call to the hotel and I was back on track). We checked in nice and simple and headed up to our room.
We got lucky and scored the bridal suite, so the room was fabulous, but I did have a nosey into some other rooms and I checked – the hotel is also wheelchair accessible.
Once checked in we grabbed out stuff and drove to the health club and spa – this is about a 5 minute drive away, but we think it would have taken around 20 minutes to walk there. Once we arrived we did our health questionnaires, we paid a deposit for our towels, robes and wrist bands (£2 per person which you get back) and were given flip flops and a little big to keep.
We then headed up to the relaxation zone which has the heated beds and water and caught up on some reading.
It was then time for our treatments, we had both had a Swedish neck, back and shoulder massage. We did ours in the same room but they checked and you could opt for separate. This lasted for 25 minutes (I felt like it was over so quickly as it was very relaxing!).
Then when we’d finished we went into the jacuzzi an sauna before getting ready. We didn’t use the showers etc at the spa mainly because there was a huge rainfall shower in the hotel which we were bother desperate to try!
On the evening we had dinner in Maxine’s, and were overwhelmed by the amount of choices we had (I eat fish but no meat and my bestie is vegetarian), the menu has 6-8 options for each course but most of them specify they can be adapted to accommodate gluten free, vegan or vegetarian options (dairy free is also an option). We both started with the Baked Camembert Fritters and red onion marmalade. I followed with the Seafood Linguine, Tomato Chilli and Garlic Reduction and Faye (bestie) had the Vegetable Gratin Stuffed Pepper. We also ordered a portion of haloumi fries because why wouldn’t you? Just a heads up, we didn’t leave anything…
We then moved into the bar area and continued with some drinks. I love nothing more than when bars stock their local gins, so we enjoyed some Steam Punk gin and ginger ale and then Slingsby Rhubarb too.
Sleeping rating is also good, we opened the windows and the area surrounding was quiet, there were extra cushions in the cupboards (and also a fan that can be set to hot and cool if you need it too.)
We got up around 8, then went down for breakfast at 9ish. The breakfast is in the restaurant and served up to 10:45. We were offered tea or coffee, then handed menu’s to choose from. There was also juices, pastries, yoghurts and fruit available to help yourself to as well.
The breakfast menu was extension, I went for the veggie full English (delicious) and Faye had the egg Florentine, which she demolished so I’m guessing they were good too.
The breakfast vibe was very relaxed, and we didn’t feel pressures to leave or eat quickly etc.
Overall, it’s a fantastic hotel that’s great for a little break away. I’d recommend checking out some of the other locations and offers they do too.
The added bonus is every single member of staff we encountered was fabulously helpful and smiling (it makes a real difference to me when you visit somewhere!).
